It is also advisable to check that their vehicles are safe & reliable, maintained to the highest standards and designed for the job for which they are being used. Make sure that their drivers are vetted and trustworthy and their vehicles are fitted with high standard security systems and never left unlocked while unattended.

To operate general transport services throughout Europe requires specific legal documentation in addition to that required in the UK. Additionally, moving personal goods and used furniture on a general haulier’s goods insurance, whether it covers the UK (a GIT policy) or Europe (a CMR policy) provides no cover with most insurance companies unless it is accompanied by an additional removals policy.
